Read-a-thon

Watson Elementary School's 4th Annual Read-A-Thon 2025

Parent Intro Letter  Reading Log Pledge Sheet Pledge Envelope/Prize Form Character Day

The Watson PTA is excited to announce the fourth annual Watson PTA Read-a-thon!  Combining fundraising and academic goals, our aim is to have every student read for at least 20 minutes per day and to raise at least $20 over the course of the Read-a-thon.

We will be running this Read-a-thon throughout the month of March but to make it easy, here's what you need to know:

  • March 3-March 7 - Collect pledges using the Pledge Sheet. Pledges can be per minute read or a flat donation amount. Never allow your child go door-to-door to solicit pledges or collect pledges alone - safety first of course!
  • March 10-March 21- The reading period. Have your child(ren) log minutes read on the Reading Log sheet. Minutes spent reading independently and/or being read both count toward Read-a-thon minutes.
    • ***THURSDAY, MARCH 13th is the Character Day Celebration! Students are invited to come to school dressed as a book character. See the packet for more details.***
  • March 24-March 27 - Collect pledges and turn in the pledge envelope to your child's classroom teacher no later than Thursday, March 27th. Pledge envelopes must be received by March 27th to count toward prizes

How Can Students Be Eligible to Win Prizes?

  • The student with the most reading minutes in each class may choose a reading partner to read a story to their class.
  • The class with the most minutes wins a pizza party and extra outdoor recess (pizza participation subject to parent/guardian approval per district allergy guidelines).

  • Every student who logs 100 minutes earns an entry into the grand prize raffle for a Kindle Kids. Each additional 30 minutes earns another entry, up to five entries per student. There will be two grand prize winners—one from K-2 and one from 3-5!

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to the Read-A-Thon co-chairs, Kathryn Cassidy (kareid521@gmail.com) and Melissa O'Brien (melissa.favale04@gmail.com).

Happy reading Wildcats!
